Rose Marie Johns
Rose Marie Johns, age 83, a lifelong resident of Rhinelander, died Nov. 5, 2018, in Rhinelander. She was born March 26, 1935, in Rhinelander, to William and Marie (Mineau) Stefan. She graduated from Rhinelander High School in 1953.
Rose married Richard Johns on April 16, 1955 and they enjoyed 63 years of marriage.
She often said her greatest accomplishment was raising three fine sons, being a great aunt to many nieces and nephews and being a good sister and sister-in-law. She was a lifelong member of the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church. Over the years she taught Sunday School and sang in the church choir.
For 25 years she was employed by the school district, first as a server, then kitchen manager and finally head cook, all at the junior high, until retiring in 1994.
She and Dick enjoyed many years of retirement. Rose also served as Rhinelander's "first lady", as the wife of Rhinelander's mayor for quite a number of years. She was blessed with a wonderful disposition and a great sense of humor.
Rose is survived by her husband, Richard Johns; her sons Lance (Jane) Johns and Thomas (Sarah) Johns, grandson Adam , great-grandchildren Ethan and Logan, sister Barbara Krueger, brother John (Barbara) Stefan, nieces, nephews, other family and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her son Daniel, grandson Andrew and her two brothers, William and Fredrick Stefan.
Visitation for Rose will be held on Friday, Nov. 9, 2018 from 9 to 11 a.m. with a memorial service at 11 a.m., all at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church. The Reverend Richard Krahn will officiate. Interment will follow in the Northland Memorial Park Cemetery. A memorial is being established in Rose's name and may be directed to her family.
