Pearl E. Gerdes
Pearl E. Gerdes, age 94, of Rhinelander, died May 19, 2019, in Rhinelander. She was born Oct. 21, 1924, in Gleason, to Karl and Theresa (Kluball) Kegler. Pearl attended schools in the Gleason area. She married Julius Gerdes on Nov. 14, 1942 in Deerbrook, and they enjoyed nearly 70 years of marriage. They moved to Rhinelander in 1956 and had lived here since.
Pearl was all about her family. While Julius went to work she did the same at home, raising their seven children. She had many interests that included fishing, quilting for family and missions, playing cards and socializing. If you asked Pearl, all of these activities were better if they included her kids and grandkids.
Pearl and Julius were also longtime members of the St. Mark Lutheran Church and that was her second family. God was always part of Pearl's life and she always made him part of all she did. You could see that in how she raised her children, how she treated others and how she lived her own life.
Pearl is survived by her daughters Gloria (Chet) Moore, Kathryn (Craig) Fowler, Jane Walkowski and Nancy (Randy) Knuth, her sons Dale (Helen) Gerdes, Ron Gerdes and Greg (Teri) Gerdes, 16 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, seven great-great-grandchildren, her sisters Genevieve (Ralph) Borneman, Marcella Raab and Eva (Joseph) Novak, her brothers Mathias (Everelda) Kegler and Harold (Susan) Kegler, nieces, nephews, other family and many friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Julius on Aug. 9, 2011, her daughter-in-law Sharon, her sister Murial and her three brothers, Kenneth, Clifford and Ernest.
Visitation for Pearl is set for Tuesday, May 28, 2019 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Carlson Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 29, 2019 at 11 a.m., with visitation from 10 to 11 a.m., all at St. Mark Lutheran Church. Reverend Richard Miller will officiate. Interment will follow in the Northland Memorial Park Cemetery. A memorial is being established in Pearl's name and any considerations may be directed to her family.
