Rev. Richard Allen Hartlerode

Reverend Richard Allen Hartlerode, age 80 of Woodruff, died Friday, July 5, 2019 at Aspirus Wausau Hospital.

Dick was born Dec. 31, 1938, in Indiana, the son of Walter and Grace Hartlerode.

Pastor Hartlerode was a United Methodist minister for numerous years faithfully serving Clarno-Staver Churches, Oakfield-Eden Churches, Jefferson UMC, Mosinee-Rothschild UMC, Darlington-Fayette UMC, Rib Lake UMC and Mercer United Methodist Church.

He enjoyed square dancing, fishing, traveling and loved the Chicago Cubs.

He is survived by his wife, Gale Hartlerode and children: Christlyn (Bjorn) Hartlerode-Sundet of Houston, Texas and Jeffrey Hartlerode of Colorado and by grandchildren: Missa Coffman, Jenna (Sean) Brigner, Aimee Coffman, Arielle (Robert) Watson, Ayslinn Hartlerode Johnson, Samuel Hartlerode and Joshua Hartlerode and by great-grandchildren: Alexander Brigner, Corrina Watson and Everett Watson. Further survived by his siblings: Karen (Jerry) Robey of Munster, Ind.; Walter (Donna) Hartlerode of McComb Township, Mich. and sister-in-law, Barbara Hartlerode of Portage, Ind. and by many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Grace, and by his brother, Bruce Hartlerode.

A memorial gathering for Reverend Hartlerode will be held on Thursday, July 11 from 10 to 11 a.m. at Mercer United Methodist Church with a memorial service at 11 a.m.

As summer congregants in Mercer we can attest that Dick Hartlerode came to our church when it was roiled by schism and by refocussing us back to the Bible and Jesus, loving God and Loving people, he brought love to our church again, for which we are eternally grateful.
