Harold C. Schumacher
Harold C. Schumacher, 81, of Rhinelander, passed away on Saturday, April 25, 2020, at home, with his wife Carol at his side. He was born in Fredonia on March 5, 1939, to Erwin and Lorraine (Bruss) Schumacher.
Together they ran the Early Bird Restaurant for over 30 years until they retired in 2000, maintaining many treasured friendships with their customers. Harold worked to build various organizations in the community, including the Search and Rescue Post in the 1970s, the Hodag Sports Club and the Rhinelander Ice Arena. He also served on the boards of his churches. He was a member of the Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church. He learned to play the concertina, and spent many weekends traveling throughout Wisconsin to play. He loved to hunt and fish, and spent many enjoyable hours with the family on their property outside of Rhinelander. Harold had a big heart and was always willing to help anyone who needed anything.
Harold is survived by his wife, Carol, sons Steve (Fanny) and Mike (Georgette) Gust, and daughters Lisa (Brian) Larimer, and Kori (Jason) Meyer. He enjoyed spending time with his eight grandchildren Maya, Joshua, Alexandra (Jake), Mitchell, Jessica, Jordan, Jake (Michelle), and Erin. Harold is also survived by his siblings Marvin, Kenneth (Annette), Wayne (Audrey), Shirley (Rodney) Wagner, Donna (Gary) Madison, Marlene (Jim) Mundt, many nieces and nephews, and his sisters-in-law Judy Tharman and Elaine Tharman. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Paul, his sister-in-law Marlene, and his brothers-in-law Paul and Dick Tharman.
Private services for Harold will be held at a later date. A memorial will be established in his name and any considerations may be directed to his family.
