Palmyra M. Creed

Palmyra M. Creed, age 87, of Rhinelander, died on Oct. 27, 2020, at the Marshfield Hospital in Marshfield.

She was born on Jan. 7, 1933, in Washburn, the daughter of Robert and Edna (Dandineau) Grupstra. She was born and raised in Washburn.

She graduated from the Washburn High School in 1951 and then continued her education at the University of Wisconsin Superior. She graduated in 1955 with a bachelor's degree, majoring in teaching and minoring in art.

Palmyra married William Creed in 1955 in Washburn and they lived in Pennsylvania, Woodruff and Black River Falls before moving to Rhinelander. She taught grade school in Lake Tomahawk while living in Woodruff.

After six years in Black River Falls, returned to the northwoods to live in Rhinelander, and taught kindergarten at the West Elementary School for 11 years.

She also spent a number of years at the Children's Learning Center in Rhinelander, until retiring in 1998.

Palmyra had many interests. She was a member of the Lakeland Art League and the Wisconsin Retired Educators Association.

She was very passionate about arts and crafts and attended a variety of workshops. She made wreaths, worked with stained glass, made themed table centerpieces for meetings she attended, and anything else her creative mind would think of. Basket-making turned out to be her biggest passion and she dove wholeheartedly into it for a number of years while traveling to attend periodic weekend workshops.

She loved to pass anything she learned on to others, especially children. She also had time to enjoy the outdoors in Northern Wisconsin. She looked forward each year to downhill skiing, ultimately switching to cross country.

Palmyra is survived by her sons Curtis Creed and Kent Creed, her grandchildren Nycole and Kayla, her great-grandchildren Draven, Riley, Ayva, Palmyra and Amelya.

She was preceded in death by her brother Billy, husband William, and her great-grandson, Richard.

Due to the pandemic, services will be held at a later date.

Palmyra will be laid to rest in Washburn. You may leave your private condolences for the Creed family at www.carlsonfh.com.

The Carlson Funeral Home (715-369-1414) Is serving the Creed family.

I enjoyed seeing Pam at many Grace Foursquare Church events and Sunday mornings. She had such a kind spirit and a deep love for her Savior Jesus Christ and her family.
May God's peace envelop each of her family members during this time.

I had Mrs. Creed in Kindergarten at West School in 1975. I remember she was very kind and I loved going to school to have class with her. My condolences.
