Irma Ilona Neumann passed away peacefully on Feb. 26, 2021. She was born on April 13, 1934, to the late Emanuel and Jenny Leppanen in Marquette, Mich. She enjoyed growing up in the country with her loving family and beloved pets. After high school, Irma attended Northern Michigan University and received an art degree. She then took a job as an art teacher for Marquette School District. It was there she met Edwin Neumann, and they married in 1958. Edwin's career at the U.S. Forest Service took them to many interesting places throughout the years. Irma and Edwin were parents of eight children they truly enjoyed. When the family settled in Rhinelander, Irma taught art and worked with the Early Childhood department in the Rhinelander school district. She retired in 1999, the year Edwin sadly died. Irma loved her family, children, reading, and art. Her favorite place was the summer cabin on a lake in the U.P. We all share fond memories of swimming, boating and being together at the lake. Irma's life was full and happy. Her friends and relatives enjoyed her kindness, ready laugh, and welcoming nature. She will be sorely missed. We are broken-hearted by the loss of our beloved mother, but we will have sweet memories to console us in our grief.
Our hearts will hold our love for her forever.
She is survived by children Jenny Neumann, Jessica Neumann, Claudia (Tim) Bramm, Edwin (Christine) Neumann, Amy (Jeff) Rogers, Peter (Cherie) Neumann, Robert (Carolina) Neumann and Molly (Steve) Bishop and 18 wonderful grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Edwin, and brothers Calvin, Arnold, and Kauko Leppanen.
A private family funeral was held at Trinity Lutheran Church on March 3, 2021. Interment will take place in the Evergreen Memorial Cemetery in Crystal Falls, Mich.
