Carol C. Bowman, age 93, of Rhinelander, died on Monday, March 15, 2021 at Friendly Village in Rhinelander. She was born on July 7, 1927, in Rhinelander, the daughter of Joseph G. Calbat and Arla (Bingham) Calbat. Carol was raised, attended school, and lived her life in Rhinelander.
She married Clel "Buck" Bowman on Nov. 23, 1946, on opening day of deer season, she always said, "I got my buck". Carol worked at the chip plant for over 20 years from the time it was Red Dot until its closure. She made many friendships that lasted her entire life. After the plant's closure, she worked at Friendly Village. She also volunteered at St. Mary's Hospital, the Senior Center and for October Fest (the thing she so enjoyed because of her love of Polka music and dancing). She was an active member of the First United Methodist Church until physical conditions stopped her from attending.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Clel "Buck" Bowman, life companion Dale "Shorty" Oldenburg, son Randy Bowman, daughters Bev Garrow, Jane Wrbelis and Janet Thilmany; sister Arla Bettinger, brothers-in-law Ed Bettinger and Ralph Priebe, brothers Joseph Calbat and Allan Calbat, sister-in-law Kay Calbat and brothers Clare Calbat and John Calbat.
Carol is survived by her daughter Bonnie (Phillip) Hazelquist, granddaughters Jessica Freitag-Vanderpal (Eric) Vanderpal, Ingrid (Chris) Danielson, great-granddaughter Maggie Jean Freitag, sisters Eva Priebe and Mary Peterson. Also surviving are stepgrandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Carol will be dearly missed by her family and friends. Her faith and cheerful attitude helped her endure many tragedies. God Bless You!
A very special thank you to the staff at Friendly Village for taking care of our beloved mother, sister, grandmother and great-grandmother.
A private family service will take place at Forest Home Cemetery.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Hildebrand Funeral Home & Cremation Specialists, 24 E. Davenport Street, Rhinelander, Wisconsin 54501, 715-365-4343
