Mark Nelson Tolsted

Madison, WI - Mark Nelson Tolsted, 47, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Friday, April 23, 2021. He was born in La Crosse on May 24, 1973, the son of Bernice (Nelson) and David Tolsted. He grew up in the Northwoods of Rhinelander. After graduating from Rhinelander High School in 1991 he attended the University of Wisconsin - Stevens Point, graduating with a degree in Art with emphasis in Graphic Design. It was there where he met his beloved wife Kara in an Art History class.

Mark was a kind, talented man with a sense of humor that could be seen in his artwork and social media posts. Nothing made Mark happier than bird hunting with his pointing dog Floyd, fishing with family, attending music events and camping with his wife and friends. He enjoyed watching Wisconsin sports, wood carving, cribbage and tennis.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Kara; parents, David and Bernice Tolsted of Rhinelander; sister Christine Tolsted Tummett, nephew, Ryder of Minneapolis; father and mother in-law, Ken and Mary Jo Haugom of Edgerton; brother in-law, Darin (Kate) Haugom; nephews, Aidan, Evan; niece, Kaia of Brookfield; godchild, Lizzy Meyer of Minneapolis and many other relatives.

A private Blessing of Ashes will be held on Monday, May 3, 2021 at Ryan Funeral Home, Madison. For friends and family to share memories, there will be a Celebration of Life on Friday, July 9, 2021, from 4 p.m. until sunset at Burrows Park, Madison.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial for a park bench will be established in Mark's name.

Bernice and family ... I am at a loss for words to read of Mark’s passing. No one should have to bury their children! My heart aches for you and all your family. My prayers are with you all.
