Irene Loraine Zerrenner

Irene Loraine Zerrenner, age 98, of Rhinelander died peacefully on June 6, 2021. She was the daughter of Hans and Myrtle Nelson. Irene is survived by her son James (Charlene) Zerrenner, grandchildren Eric (Heather) Zerrenner, Amy (Jeff) Miller, Chad Hochman, great-grandchildren Andrew Miller, Evan Miller, Quinn Zerrenner, Kaitlyn Zerrenner, sisters Betty Jordens, Merlyn Moss, nieces, nephews and many other relatives and friends.

Irene was predeceased by her husband Harvey Zerrenner and son Roger Zerrenner.

Irene was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. As a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Irene always had a smile on her face; she was always eager and happy to see you. Her passion in life was her family and giving to others. Irene was always concerned for others; she would give whatever she had to anyone who asked, never asking or expecting anything in return, except maybe a smile or a hug. She gave great hugs.

After her family was grown, she worked in the cafeteria at Pine Lake School and later at Rhinelander Union High School where she made a caring and positive impact on every student she encountered. Her baking skills were legendary; it can be debated as to whether students would return for a hug from Irene or a second baked treat! She was deeply loved by all who knew her and will be missed, but will always remain in our hearts. Donations in her name may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church.

A graveside service for Irene will be held on Monday, June 21 at 9 a.m. at Forest Home Cemetery with pastor Kari Vadis officiating. You may leave your private condolences for the Zerrenner family at

The Carlson Funeral Home (715-369-1414) is handling the arrangements for the family.

Dear Jim, Sorry to learn you've lost your Mother. I remember well the welcome Jerry and I received every time we visited your home. Memories of you and Roger are still strong. Forty one years ago you sent flowers in honor of my Mother. Once they are gone it's for a long time. I'm glad for the longevity you and your Mother shared and hope she had a quality & well being up to her passing. Best regards always, Ron
