Virginia R. Hagen, age 94, of Rhinelander, passed away July 22, 2022, at Rennes Rehabilitation and Health Center in Rhinelander.
Born July 22, 1928, in Harrison, she is the daughter of the late Elmer and Marie (Winker) Guolee. Virginia and Kenneth G. Hagen were married Jan. 7, 1948, in Rhinelander.
She spent her first 12 years of marriage as a Navy wife and homemaker at various locations on the east coast. Upon Kenneth's retirement from the U.S. Navy, they returned to Rhinelander where Virginia was an active volunteer. She served on St. Mary's School Board, was a 4-H leader, a nursing home volunteer at Friendly Village and Taylor Park since 1975 and was always active with the Nativity of Our Lord Women's Club for over 45 years and delivered Meals on Wheels with her husband for 15 years.
As an avid outdoorsperson she enjoyed gardening, bird watching, travelling to different parts of the U.S. and especially cross-country skiing with Kenneth and her family. Having had limited educational opportunities herself, Virginia's greatest satisfaction was seeing all six of her children receive college degrees.
Virginia is survived by sons Timothy (Kimberly Kelling) Hagen of Rhinelander and John (Karen) Hagen of Rhinelander; daughters Dr. Marghi (Michael Jolliffe) Hagen of Little River, Calif. and Dr. Jayne Hagen of Berkeley, Calif.; grandchildren Kyle Hagen and Christopher Hagen.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers and sisters; her husband, Kenneth (2006); her daughter, Dr. Susan Hagen-Munn (1980); her son, Kenneth A. Hagen (1998) and son-in-law, Tim Gallagher.
A Mass of Christian of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, July 28 at Nativity of Our Lord Catholic Church, located at 125 E. King Street, Fr. Chris Kemp will officiate. Visitation will precede the Mass beginning at 10 a.m.
