Joseph J. Lemanski, Jr.

Joseph J. Lemanski, Jr., age 85, of Rhinelander passed away peacefully on Friday, Sept. 9, 2022, at Rhinelander Aspirus Hospital. A lifelong resident of Rhinelander, Joe was born July 15, 1937, to the late Joseph Sr. and Mildred (Shimkus) Lemanski.

Joe graduated from Rhinelander High School and began work at the airport, Moritz, and Northwoods Tire & Auto. He was an accomplished diver, participating in a small salvage and recovery operation. Joe had a great love of motorcycles and was a founding member of the Northwoods chapter. He married his first wife, Marlene Dingel, and had two children, Laurie and Michael. Joe was called to serve in the Army National Guard of Wisconsin, Red Arrow Division, 632nd Armor, Ft. Lewis, Wash. He attained the rank of sergeant, E-5, where he served during the creation of the Berlin Wall. Coincidentally, his son served at Lindsey Air Station Germany when the wall came down. Joe then began his career at St. Regis Paper Company where he worked until his retirement.

Joe married the love of his life, Della Dobbe, on August 9, 2008. Together, they rekindled a love of motorcycles and fishing in Baraga, Mich., on Lake Superior. He also enjoyed waterfowl hunting with his son in Montana and North Dakota. Joe purchased land and built a cabin known as his beloved "Ravens Rook" in the Newbold area. He found a passion for farming, though his massive operation consisted of a 5-acre field at Ravens Rook. Throughout his life, he was also an accomplished pianist, accordionist, and guitar player. His recital piece was "Clair de lune" and he could be talked into playing it with enough "Old Crow".

Survivors include his wife, Della Lemanski, of Rhinelander; his son, Michael Lemanski, of Foxholm, N.D.; and his stepdaughters, Jamie (Robert) Bozill, of Iron Mountain, Mich., and Joanne Dobbe, of Plover. Joe is further survived by three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Mildred; and his daughter, Laurie.

May God bless and keep him always, "To the Rook."

In accordance with Joseph's wishes, no formal services will be held. A private burial service will take place at a later date. Generations Funeral Home & Crematory is assisting the family. You may view Joe's obituary and leave online condolences at

Through their ownership and management of several properties in town, the Lemanskis gave a lot of good people a better chance at a good life. God Bless them, our hearts are heavy, but our memories, wonderful.............
