Gary Wayne Martin

Gary Wayne Martin, 72, of Rhinelander, passed away at his home on Friday morning, Jan. 27, 2023 with his wife Debra by his side.

Gary was born in Tomahawk, on June 17, 1950, to Donald and Marlene (Freuen) Collins.

He was raised in Tomahawk and was a 1968 graduate of Tomahawk High School. He was employed by Harley Davidson until 1970, when he was then drafted by the United States Army, proudly serving his country during the Vietnam War. He was stationed in Korea and Germany and was honorably discharged in 1973.

After serving in the military, Gary moved to Rhinelander in 1973 and began his career working at Twist Drill for the next 29 years. He retired in 2002.

Gary met his future wife, Debra Winchell, in 1980. The couple dated for a while and were united in marriage on May 5, 1984, at St. Joseph Catholic Church.

He enjoyed fishing, listening to just about any type of music, and also enjoyed reading about history.

He will be dearly missed by his wife Debra, son James A. (Sarah) Martin of Waukesha, daughter-in-law Rayvn Kuester of Rhinelander, three granddaughters: Katrina, Ryna, and Lorelei; siblings, Marlie (Larry) Dirkx of Tomahawk, Mary Brill of Cadott, and Peggy Robertson of North Port, Fla., Donnie (Cindy) Collins of Yermo, Calif., Pat (Lisa) Collins of Tomahawk, Tom (Lori) Collins of Thorton, Colo., and Dave (Brenda) Collins of Harvey, N.D.

Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Don and Marlene Collins; sister Jamie Harder, brother Michael Collins and son, Jeff Martin.

At Gary's request, there will be no visitation or services.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Hildebrand Funeral Home & Cremation Specialists, 24 E. Davenport Street, Rhinelander, Wisconsin, 54501, 715-365-4343. Everyone is invited to sign the guestbook, or leave an online condolence at www.hildebrandrussfh.com.
