RHS students tour Rhinelander GM

Marcus Nesemann

Rhinelander High School technology and business education students took a tour of the Rhinelander GM & Toyota Auto Center Monday afternoon and got an up close look at job opportunities that may be available to them in the future.

Mike Wojtusik, a technology education teacher at RHS, brought the group to the auto center so his students could learn firsthand from people who are working in the local automotive industry.

The students seemed to get a lot out of the field trip, Wojtusik said.

"The people at GM talked quite a bit about the things the kids need to prepare them in order to get a job at that facility," Wojtusik said. "They stressed education, they stressed the importance of having elective classes available for (technology education) and for business."

Rhinelander GM & Toyota Auto Center Marketing Coordinator Tarsie Goes said the goal of the tour was to teach students about all of the different departments within the facility instead of focusing only on the automotive maintenence side of things.

"We talked about the career opportunities that are available within our dealership, which includes sales, service, parts, accounting, and marketing," Goes said. "We had the business education students along with the automotive students so that's why we based it on all of the different perspectives within the dealership. It wasn't just automotive maintenance and dealing with cars. We showed them all aspects of the business and talked about how business classes are just as important as the (technology education) classes."

Be sure to check out the Thursday print edition for a full report on the tour.
