JWMS students perform random acts of kindness

Mike Cheslock
Community Education Coordinator

Students and staff at James Williams Middle School participated in a Random Acts of Kindness Week in February. Every day had a different theme starting with teachers welcoming students with cheering and encouraging signs on Monday morning. Students throughout the week completed a kindness challenge by showing thoughtfulness to other students and teachers. They documented what they could do for each other on paper hands and the considerate gestures they received on leaves to make a kindness tree in the commons. Donations for the Ronald McDonald house were also collected throughout the week and given to the foundation on behalf of the Helping Hearts group.

NCES Artists of the Month

Northwoods Community Elementary School Art Department continues its "Artist of the Month" recognition. The next round of students are ready for display!

This month, grades K, 1 and 5 are on display. Kindergartners worked on making some arctic friends using sponges for painting texture and oil pastels for the northern lights. First graders learned about artist Charley Harper and used symmetrical shapes and fun colors to make cardinal collages. Fifth graders continued in their learning about color theory and applied analogous color schemes to a Zentangle pattern.

Students are chosen as Artists of the Month for their innovative thinking skills, creative applications, showcasing of exemplar learning through the project expectations, and of course, by positively demonstrating the 4 Bs (Be Respectful, Be Responsible, Be Safe, and Be Here).

The Artists of the Month for March were Bella Joslin, Chloe Roou, Ashlyn Hapka, Kaden Vanney, Kyrle Vanney and Elias Simonsen.

This round of student artwork will be on display at the YMCA of the Northwoods through April 8. Community members are encouraged to view the artwork in person.

Congratulations to the March Artists and a very special thank you to the YMCA of the Northwoods!

4K Registration and Screening to be held Monday at Pelican Elementary School

The School District of Rhinelander will be hosting a 4K Registration and Screening from 4 to 6:30 p.m. on Monday, March 20 at Pelican Elementary School. While parents complete registration, busing forms and a survey, children will be introduced to our 4K teachers to do some hopping, stacking, and cutting. They will also receive a light snack and a goodie-bag to take home. Families are asked to bring their child's birth certificate and, if possible, a copy of immunization record. This registration event includes any and all Rhinelander School District elementary schools. Pelican Elementary School is located at 3350 V. Hickey Rd., Rhinelander. For more information, call 715-365-9160 or 715-365-9120.

Central School Artists of the Month

Central Intermediate School's Art Department continues with its "Artist of the Month" recognition. The next round of students are ready for display.

This month, fourth and fifth graders continued their learning on color theory and applied new techniques to their projects. Fourth grade explored Monochromatic painting and used a color scheme of their choice to make a Northwoods inspired painting. Fifth grade investigated Analogous colors and applied a theme of their choice to a Zentangle patterned snowflake or star. All projects demonstrate color theory knowledge as well as close attention to details.

Students are chosen as Artists of the Month for their innovative thinking skills, creative applications, showcasing of exemplar learning through the project expectations, and of course, by positively demonstrating the 4 Bs (Be Respectful, Be Responsible, Be Safe, and Be Here).

The Artists of the Month for March were Anna Price, Margeaux Zohimsky, Brooklyn Zivko, Elsa Vadis, Alaina Meyers, Kyleah Hartman, Elizabeth Joswick, Natalie Bills, Kaitlyn Messenlehner, Nicole Brunette, Benjamin Clark, Morgan Whitaker and Natalie Sammons.

This round of student artwork will be on display at Nicolet National Bank through April 10. Community members are encouraged to visit the bank to view the amazing artwork.
