Budding writer Cassidy Lindner has had a busy year in Mrs. Bauknecht's fourth-grade class at Central School, according to a School District of Rhinelander press release.
In February, she authored and illustrated a book entitled "Jack." The book was submitted to the Delta Kappa Gamma Society International's Mary Jo Nettesheim Memorial Literary and Illustrator Competition. This competition was created to allow students to show off their writing skills and artistic talents. It is open to students in grades 3-12. Cassidy's story won first place in the classroom, and was then sent to Delta Kappa Gamma's district level. There, she won first place and her story "Jack" was sent to state level of competition. At the state level, "Jack" tied for first place out of stories submitted from the state's 18 districts. For her efforts, Cassidy was awarded a trophy and a $50 check.

While she was waiting for The Delta Kappa Gamma Society to return her story, Cassidy entered the Wisconsin DNR's Air, Air Everywhere Poetry Contest. The contest was open to all third, fourth and fifth grade students in Wisconsin. Spokesperson for the contest, Lindsay Hass, said "it was the closest vote they've ever had" with Cassidy missing first place by a mere two points. For her second place finish, Cassidy's poem will be featured on the DNR webpage beginning May 20. Cassidy will also receive an award certificate and a class set of pencil cases to share with her classmates. To read Cassidy's poem, visit https://dnr.wi.gov/topic/AirQuality/PoetryContest.html.
