2/8/2020 7:30:00 AM RHS mock trial team to participate in regional tournament
The Rhinelander High School mock trial team is one of eight teams from the Northwoods area, and 108 in the state, set to compete Saturday, Feb. 8, in Wisconsin High School Mock Trial regional tournaments.
The RHS team will compete in a regional competition to be held from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Marathon County Courthouse, 500 Forest Street, Wausau.
"The mock trial program provides high school students with an opportunity to act as attorneys and witnesses in a court case developed by State Bar of Wisconsin members," according to a school district press release. "This year, students are tackling the issues presented in the case Estate of Jonah Stark et. al. v. Clearwater Hills Country Club, involving a drowning at the country club. Students - in teams of six to 12 - argue a civil case before a panel of volunteer attorneys and judges in the regional competitions, with the winners advancing to the semifinals in Madison. Semifinal winners will compete in the final state-level competition held at the Wisconsin State Capitol."
Other area schools competing in Saturday's regional competition are D.C. Everest High School, Wausau West High School, Merrill High School, Stratford High School, and Phillips High School.
