RHS featured in 'The Most Important Class You Never Had' documentary

Rhinelander High School (RHS) was recently featured in a 37-minute documentary following the stories of eight remarkable high school teachers and classrooms from around the nation. This film, produced by Next Gen Personal Finance, brings the importance of personal finance education into sharp focus, according to a School District of Rhinelander press release.

The name of the documentary is "The Most Important Class You Never Had", and it can be viewed on the Next Gen Personal Finance website or on Youtube at: https://youtu.be/vZHyxGriM6k

The film was recently viewed by RHS students as part of Rhinelander PIE's annual Mad Money event for sophomores. Photos from these screenings were shared with the public on the School District of Rhinelander's Twitter page: https://twitter.com/sdrrhinelander.

All schools who offer a screening and a tweet of their audiences by April 30, 2020 will be entered into a drawing for one of ten $1,000 grants, designated for the personal finance program at their school. RHS is now eligible to be chosen for one of these grants.

"We encourage the public to view the documentary as well," the release states. "Please click the link to learn about this important topic and to see RHS highlighted in this awesome documentary! The part of the documentary that highlights RHS begins at 12:33 and ends at 17:27, but we encourage you to watch the entire video."

The annual Mad Money event was held on Tuesday, March 3.

This year's event featured a budget simulation in the morning and employability skill sessions in the afternoon along with motivational speaker Mike McGowan to offer a full day of activities for the sophomore class at Rhinelander High School, according to a school district press release.

In the morning, students were transported into the future, given various careers and life situations, and experienced balancing their budgets while obtaining housing, transportation, food, household necessities, clothing, day care, and other wants and needs.

In the afternoon, speaker Mike McGowan engaged the students on many levels through his personal experience.

Students also completed mock interviews with more than 30 business professionals from the community. During this time students also watched "The Most Important Class You Never Had" documentary.
