Beekeeper visits Crescent students
Mrs. Deitz's first-grade class recently participated in an inquiry project about insects. After the students chose an insect, they wrote many questions that they wanted to know about their insects. In turn, they used these questions as a start for their research project. To research, the students used their iPads to scan QR codes. Then they showcased their learning through 30 Hands. The application allowed students to make a movie using photographs and their voice to show what they had learned about their chosen insect.

A case for warmth in the classroom
There is an age old story in education. Students don't always realize how much their teachers care until after they graduate. This time of year we hear things like "Mr. or Mrs. so and so is hard on me. Mr. or Mrs. so and so doesn't understand how much we have to do, or Mr. or Mrs. so and so just expects too much from me."

cinco de mayo lesson
During the week of Cinco de Mayo students in Sra. Weber's Spanish classes learned that this date is not a celebration of Mexico's independence (Sept. 16) but rather the 5th of May celebrated a symbolic victory for Mexican General Ignacio Zaragoza and his rag-tag army of only 2,000 men who triumphed over French troops at the Battle of Puebla in 1862. A special culinary focus for class was learning how to make handmade corn tortillas from nixtamalized corn.
