Second grade students at Crescent Elementary School participated in a variety of Dr. Seuss activities March 2. Each second grade class visited the five second grade classrooms to learn more about the books that Dr. Seuss wrote.

The School District of Rhinelander will be host 4K registration and screening from 4 to 6:30 p.m. Monday, March 20 at Pelican Elementary School. Children that will be age 4 prior to Sept. 1 are welcome to register.

I brought a Hodag to Central
An author who has written two children's books staring Rhinelander's famed mythical Hodag worked with the students at Central Intermediate School Monday.

Tom Barnett, author of "I Brought a Hodag to School" read the sequel, "I Brought a Hodag Home," to the students, went over the story, took them through the drawing process of the main character, Bob the Hodag; and more. (subscriber access)

School board supports superintendent's approval of concert
The Stand with Standing Rock benefit concert held Friday evening at the John and Dori Brown Performing Arts Center at Rhinelander High School drew an objection from at least one area resident. That person complained to school board member David Holperin, who questioned why superintendent Kelli Jacobi authorized the concert without the school board's approval. (subscriber access)

Students in Mrs. Olson's kindergarten and Mrs. Bishop's third-grade class at Crescent Elementary School partnered up to learn about Veterans Day and created a project to honor our veterans' service to the country.

USW Local 2-15 supports Weekend Food for Kids program
USW Local 2-15 recently donated $528 towards the 2016-17 School Year Weekend Food for Kids program. Guy Hansen, RAFP executive director, is pictured accepting the donation from USW Local 2-15 representatives, Bob Smith, president, and John Apfel, committee member. Weekend Food for Kids is a joint program between the Rhinelander Area Food Pantry and the School District of Rhinelander. During the current school year the program is providing nutritious food each weekend to approximately 275 children.
