Explore college on your terms at Nicolet's College Visit Day Feb. 9

Nicolet will hold a College Visit Day Friday, Feb. 9, for anyone interested in attending Nicolet, learning about the careers graduates pursue, and the training necessary to begin any given profession.

The event will run from 9:30 a.m. to noon in the Lakeside Center on the Nicolet Campus.

"Nicolet offers numerous flexible options for students to fit college into their lives," Nicolet Director of Enrollment Erika Warning explained in a press release. "College Visit Day is a great opportunity for people to learn about these options, explore the academic programs Nicolet has to offer, meet with instructors, and understand the next steps to signing up for classes."

Flexible offerings include online classes, hybrid classes that feature a mix of online learning and face-to-face instruction once or twice a semester, drop-in open labs, and evening classes.

The college also recently launched the highly-flexible Nicolet My Way program for welding students. Instead of attending traditional classes, students set their own schedules and advance through the program at their own pace. Progress is measured by students mastering specific skills, which are bundled into a series of modules. Once all of the modules are completed, students receive a technical diploma in welding. New students can start the welding program at numerous times throughout the year, typically the first or second Monday of most months.

Nicolet also offers credit for prior learning, where students take an assessment to demonstrate they already have the knowledge and skills taught in a given course. When they pass the assessment, students are awarded college credit without having to take the course.

Financial aid staff will also be available at College Visit Day to help individuals find ways to cover the cost of college with little or preferably no debt.

"Nicolet is a very affordable investment," said Nicolet Director of Financial Aid Jill Price. "We work with individuals to explore all options, including a full range of grants, scholarships, and other financial aid opportunities, to make college as affordable as possible."

The college offers 66 different academic credentials. These range from short-term certificates that can be earned in one semester to two-year associate's degrees, all of which transfer to four-year campuses for students who have their eyes set on earning a bachelor's degree.

"In most of our programs, students focus on learning what they need when they need it. They can learn a specific skill, earn a certificate, complete a program or finish a degree by taking small steps whenever they are ready," Warning explained.

She also noted that the latest Graduate Follow-Up Report shows that 93 percent of the graduates from the class of 2016 indicated they were satisfied or very satisfied with their Nicolet education.

The Nicolet Campus is located one mile south of Rhinelander just off of Hwy. G.
