RHS France 2020 group to raffle off Elton John concert tickets

Sir Elton John was scheduled to perform in Milwaukee on Feb. 19, and two local residents had planned to attend. The performance, however, was postponed, and the ticketholders cannot make the trip to the Fiserve Forum on Saturday, Oct. 19.

Luckily, the Rhinelander High School students planning to travel to France in 2020 have become the fortunate beneficiary of this pair of tickets.

"The seats are amazing!" trip organizer Linda Goldsworthy said in a press release. "Located in section F4, Row 11, the winner of seats 5 and 6 will be seating on the floor near the stage rather than in the stands."

Part of John's Farewell Tour, the concert has been selling out to crowds around the world. Tickets to the Milwaukee show near the same location as the raffle seats are selling for triple their cost according to Goldsworthy.

"A quick glance at StubHub shows that tickets in this exact section are going for between $900 and $1,100 each," Goldsworthy noted.

The great part about this fundraiser, according to Goldsworthy, is that it holds appeal throughout the Midwest, rather than just in Rhinelander.

"We have students who are selling to friends and relatives all over the country. We want to capitalize on the influx of summer visitors as well. So look to see students selling at major events throughout the summer," Goldsworthy said.

The group hopes to sell 1,000 tickets for $20 each between now and Sept. 3.

The pair of tickets are the first prize, while second and third place winners will win $300 and $200 respectively.

Upcoming fundraisers where raffle tickets will be available include: Brat Sales at Walmart on June 22, July 11 and Aug. 10; CT's Deli FUNdraiser on July 19; Bucketheads Share Night on July 3; and car washes at LaSalle Street Securities on June 30 and July 13.

"But perhaps the best way to purchase raffle tickets is through contacting one of our participants directly, as they will earn between $19 and $19.50 for each ticket they sell individually should we sell all 1,000 tickets," says Goldsworthy.

Participants who are selling the Elton John concert raffle tickets include: Sage Flory, Lisa Kennedy, Natalee Sundby, Bella Walkowski, Sarah Squires, Emma Squires, Holly Puza, Lexi Morrison, Nick Carrico, Gwyneth Lowry, MacKenzie Bourcier, Joyce Hause, Madeline Hetland, Hailey Buchmann, Daniel Goldsworthy, Marisa McGuire, Kahlie Arneson and McKenna Nash.

The France 2020 trip will be the fifth trip the RHS social studies department has sponsored since 2013. Previous trips have been to Italy (2013), England and France (2015), Italy (2016), and Ireland and Scotland (2018).

"We have worked with the American Council for International Studies, or ACIS, on our last four trips and have been extremely satisfied," Goldsworthy said in an earlier press release about the trip. "This trip, 'Insiders France,' really allows us some unique experiences."

"Highlights of this tour include an evening of French Theater - with surtitles, visiting and biking the grounds of Versailles, exploring chateaus at Chenonceau and Chambord, and driving to the Normandy coast for visits to Mont St. Michel as well as the D-Day beaches and American cemetery. We will return to Paris the last two days and explore the Louvre, the Eiffel Tower, Montmartre and the Latin Quarter," said Goldsworthy.

"Our cultural connections will include having an art lesson in Montmartre, petanque lessons and a guinguette, a traditional riverside cafe and dance venue," Goldsworthy added.
