Crescent students celebrate Earth Day
In observance of Earth Day, Mrs. Arnott's third-grade class at Crescent Elementary made plant pots out of newspaper. The students organized themselves into a virtual factory, with various individuals taking on the tasks of folding newspapers, rolling the pots, distributing tape, collecting the finished pots, and picking up scraps. The newspaper pots are ideal for starting seeds indoors, and can then be planted directly into the ground outside. Over 100 pots were constructed.

U.S. News & World Report recognizes Northland Pines High School with Silver Badge
The Northland Pines School District announced this week that Northland Pines High School has earned a Silver Badge from U.S. News & World Report.

There are 507 high schools in the state of Wisconsin that U.S. News and World Report collected data on. Of these 507 schools, Northland Pines High School is ranked No. 60.

Rhinelander HS DECA students to compete in California
Rhinelander High School will send seven DECA members to Anaheim, California Tuesday, April 25 for the International Career Development Conference (ICDC). DECA is a marketing and business organization at the high school that focuses on career and leadership development, according to a district press release.

McTeacher night
Crescent Elementary School staff participated in McTeacher Night at McDonald's Tuesday. The restaurant will donate 20 percent of its sales during the hours the teachers were serving to the school's Positive Behavior Interventions and Support (PBIS) budget.

Local students participate in Concert Festival
Students from area schools will participate in a Wisconsin School Music Association (WSMA) sanctioned Concert Music Festival hosted at Three Lakes High School on Thursday, May 11. During the festival, which is free and open to the public, each school's concert ensemble groups will perform before a panel of adjudicators while students from other schools listen in as part of their own learning experience, according to a press release announcing the event.

Pelican students enjoy Career Week
Pelican second-grade students got a taste of the various careers available to them during Career Week (March 27-31). Parent volunteers from each of the second- grade classrooms spoke to students about the skills, and tools involved in their jobs and the reasons why they do the job they do.

The School District of Rhinelander sent a number of students to the state HOSA (Health Occupations Students of America) competition this week, where over 1,100 students from all over the state competed in a variety of medical-based events.
