Pelican hosts science-themed Family Night
Pelican Elementary School values the family nights it hosts each year. It's a time when all the Pelican families get to enjoy each other's company as well as learn some new activities and games they can bring home to do with their children. This year, Pelican decided to do grade level family nights to highlight the accomplishments and activities of each grade level. The theme for the second grade family night was science.

In January, Rhinelander FBLA/DECA sponsored FBLA/DECA Week, which included dress-up days, an ice cream social, a Miracle Minute at a basketball game, and a staff appreciation breakfast.

Eagle River teachers experience dyslexia through simulation
Earlier this month, Eagle River Elementary teaching staff were given the opportunity to participate in learning disability/dyslexia simulation activities facilitated by the special education staff. Many teachers have an intellectual or academic understanding of some of the problems faced by individuals with dyslexia, but are not able to fully grasp a student's feelings of anxiety, frustration, and failure, according to a district press release. The simulations were developed to provide teachers a semblance of that experience.

Nicolet College cosmetology students will showcase their considerable hairstyling talents at the upcoming "The Time of Our Lives" hair show at 6 p.m., Monday, Feb. 20, in the Nicolet College Theatre.

FBLA/DECA Miracle Minute supports Kindness for Kids
In January, Rhinelander FBLA/DECA sponsored FBLA/DECA Week, which included dress-up days, an ice cream social, Miracle Minute at a basketball game, and a staff appreciation breakfast. On Thursday of the week, the chapter went to all of the classrooms at Rhinelander High School in one minute to collect money for Kindness for Kids - a local Rhinelander organization that provides food and school supplies in the area. In just a minute, the chapter collected $281.

Five RHS Choral students perform at Brother's Sing on Music Festival
Five students from the Rhinelander High School Choral Program were recently invited to perform at the Brother's Sing on Music Festival at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point Jan. 27. This was an extraordinary opportunity in that they were able to rehearse and perform with over 260 male singers from all over the state of Wisconsin, according to a school district press release.
