Goggin to speak at Newbold Town Lakes Committee meeting

The Newbold Town Lakes Committee will host guest speaker Patrick Goggin Aug. 21. The meeting is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. at the Newbold Town Hall.

The committee is comprised of representatives from the five organized lakes within the township. Newbold has 115 lakes and only five have formal associations. The associations bring people together for the betterment of their individual lakes through education and networking with their neighboring lakes.

Goggin works closely with the Wisconsin Lakes Partnership team, formerly known as the Wisconsin Association of Lakes. He has been collaborating on the development of educational programming and materials for people of the lakes. Areas of interest for him include lake districts and water law, human effects on water, building lake organizations, aquatic ecosystems and the native flora of Wisconsin lakeshores. He works for the University of Wisconsin - Stevens Point College of Natural Resources and the University of Wisconsin - Extension Lakes out of the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources Service Center in Rhinelander.

Some of the topics to be addressed include:

- Why lake organizations?

- Types of lake organization

- Themes explored by lake organization

- Resources to help your lake association succeed

Combining vast knowledge, sincere concern for our lakes and a warm sense of humor, Goggin is sure to educate and entertain all who attend this presentation, the committee said in a press release.

People who live on Northwoods lakes, including those outside of Newbold, are strongly encouraged to attend.
