Fall and musky fishing go together like peanut butter and jelly. One of the premier musky fishing tournaments in the Northwoods, the Three Lakes Fall Classic Muskie Tournament, is set for Saturday, Oct. 14. The tournament is put on by the Headwaters Chapter of Muskies, Inc. The field of 50 boats will take on the Three Lakes Chain, which normally produces some beautiful fish at that time of year. The tournament is a catch-and-release format, with all fish being returned to swim another day and provide a great fight for another angler.

The Fall Classic schedule of events starts with a reception, raffles and a mandatory rules meeting at Oneida Village Inn in Three Lakes from 5 to 7:30 p.m.

Saturday morning, donuts and coffee are provided dockside at Sunset Grill in Three Lakes starting at 6:30 a.m. Fishing hours are 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Saturday with dinner and the awards presentation at 6 p.m., also at Oneida Village Inn.

Over $7,000 in cash prizes will be awarded, with cash prizes for every fish registered. All proceeds from the tournament will benefit the Three Lakes Fish and Wildlife Improvement Association. Anglers who fish the Eagle River Paul's Pro Am on Sept. 16 and 17 and the Three Lakes Fall Classic will qualify for the "Champions of the Chain" title and a chance to win big prizes.

Registration is now open, and interested teams of anglers should sign up early, as the field fills quickly and is limited to 50 boats. Ease out order in the morning will be based on the date a team registers for the tournament. For more information about the tournament can search "Three Lakes Fall Classic Muskie Tournament" on Facebook, call 715-891-4673 or email
