The Stella Fire Department held its second annual predator hunt last month, with 55 hunter registering for the event. There were two classes, houndsmen and callers. There were 31 callers and 24 houndsmen.
Four coyotes were shot in all, but only three were registered within the allotted time frame. Mitch Ellis's coyote was 35 pounds. Hunter Bleck's was close, at 33 pounds, and Kyle Kuester was able to bring in a 26.5 pound animal during the hunt.
Over 130 people attended the registration and raffles at the end of the day. There were many raffles that night, including a meat raffle and two gun raffles. The guns were won by Sue Arndt and Katie Kuester.
The fire department also sold food and drinks, and there was music in the evening, making the event one the entire town could come enjoy. The volunteer fire department was able to raise several thousand dollars during the event. That money will be used to purchase any needed equipment for the firefighters.
The fire department would like to send a thank you to all of the sponsors, hunters and volunteers who made this event possible. It is looking forward to holding the event again next year and hopes it continues to grow year after year.
