More hunters doubt deer harvest numbers
The Lakeland Times has previously reported hunters in the Minocqua area hearing of nefarious goings-on in regards to deer registrations. Aquatic invasive species a concern for ice anglers
Once the lakes freeze over and anglers hit the ice, most give little thought to aquatic invasive species. In the summer, it is top of mind, with volunteers manning the launch ramps and reminding boaters to remove weeds from their trailers and boats. But in the winter, anglers seldom think about plants, thinking they are all dead through the winter months.

The lake where you live
Years ago a friend took me to his favorite little bluegill lake. I brought nightcrawlers; he brought some odd-looking green bugs in a coffee can one-third full of water. Long story short, the big bull 'gills in this lake ignored my worms and went crazy for his bugs. (subscriber access)

Fish like a girl
Every year about this time, people start to wonder if they will stick to their resolutions. Dieting and exercise does not seem like such a good idea. If it were summertime and we could get outside, sure. (subscriber access)

The lake where you live
Rock bass are present in many of our Wisconsin lakes. They are aggressive feeders. They are often found out in the same kinds of habitat as smallmouth bass. One thing they are not is bass. They are actually members of the sunfish family, with bluegills and pumpkinseeds. (subscriber access)

2016 - The year that was
I often hear, or read, comments urging folks to never look back. I have never been able to figure out as to why looking back is not a good idea, unless the person making that suggestion has had a really lousy life, which if so, is sad. (subscriber access)
