Sex offender to be released in Rhinelander
By River News staff

A sex offender from Rhinelander convicted of possession of child pornography will be released back into the community Sept. 26, the Rhinelander Police Department announced Friday.

According to a department press release, Albert Chagnon, 35, will be released to community supervision and supervised by agents from the Wisconsin Department of Corrections - Probation and Parole Office in Rhinelander. He will remain on supervision until Oct. 3, 2023.

Upon release, Chagnon will be placed on the Intensive Supervision Program and will be required to register with the Wisconsin Sex Offender Registry Program until Jan. 8, 2025.

Chagnon is completing a sentence for possessing sexually explicit photographs of children.

"The Rhinelander Police Department requests that members of the community, especially those with young children, maintain a heightened awareness if you see Mr. Chagnon in the community," the release states. "If you see Albert Chagnon engaging a child without a parent or guardian present, call law enforcement immediately."

This is yet another case in the past couple of months where we are not informed of where the offender will be living. Is there a reason why we are not allowed to know? It's not possible to carry pictures of these people around just looking for them!
