Vilas County sheriff, department of corrections, and U.S. marshals conduct sex offender compliance check

The U.S. Marshals, along with the Wisconsin Department of Corrections Sex Offender Registry Program and the Vilas County Sheriff's Office, recently conducted a residence verification operation for registered sex offenders, according to a Vilas County press release.

On Aug. 13 deputies checked the addresses of 50 registered sex offenders in Vilas County. During the initiative two sex offenders were found to be non-compliant, the release states.

The Sex Offender Registry program specialist will investigate the nature of the non-compliance and make recommendations to the district attorney as necessary.

This initiative is part of the working relationship between the U.S. Marshals Sex Offender Investigations Branch and the Wisconsin Department of Corrections Sex Offender Registration Program which monitors all 25,555 Wisconsin sex offenders.

The Wisconsin Department of Corrections maintains a database for the general public at http://offender.doc.state.wi.us/public/.
