Local man charged in child porn case
By River News Staff

A 70-year-old Newbold man has been charged with one count of possession of child pornography in connection with an investigation involving the alleged exploitation of children.

According to a criminal complaint filed Nov. 19, investigators from the Oneida County sheriff's office and the Department of Criminal Investigation visited the residence of Paul M. Perdue on Monday, Nov. 18 to inquire about materials related to child exploitation.

Perdue spoke to investigators on his porch, initially denying having any such materials at his residence. Eventually, however, he admitted to viewing pornography featuring females aged approximately 14 to 15 years old.

He also allowed officers to investigate a laptop, a tablet device and a camera, the complaint states. A forensic analysis of the two computers yielded a number of images showing children in sexually suggestive poses, the complaint states.

In his interview with investigators, Perdue admitted he knew it was wrong to look at such images. According to the complaint, Perdue also admitted to possessing photos of teenage female neighbors.

Perdue made his initial appearance Nov. 19 at which time a $5,000 cash bond was set with conditions that he have no contact with anyone under the age of 18 and no access to the internet. He is due back in court Dec. 9. If convicted, Perdue could be sentenced to up to 25 years in prison.
