A criminal complaint has been filed in Oneida County Circuit Court accusing a Rhinelander man of domestic abuse of an elderly person.

Beau Zinsmeister, 34, is charged with felony aggravated battery/elderly person/domestic abuse, intentionally subject an individual at risk to abuse/likely to cause bodily harm, false imprisonment, substantial battery and misdemeanors criminal damage to property and disorderly conduct/domestic abuse/threat.

According to the complaint, the Oneida County Sheriff's Department responded to disturbance at a Rhinelander residence just after midnight Dec. 5. The caller indicated a "drunk male" was "screaming and making a lot of noise," according to police reports.

Police witnessed a physical altercation involving Zinsmeister and a female, age 71. The woman could be heard calling for help behind the door, and police kicked it in after hearing further sounds, the complaint states.

Zinsmeister was observed without a shirt and what appeared to be blood on his hands and knuckles. A "visibly upset" female was behind him.

Zinsmeister was yelling and was observed to be likely "highly intoxicated", court reports note.

The alleged victim noted they were family and had been living together for a few days. They had lived together in the past as well, the complaint states.

The alleged victim, who had "significant injuries on her head and face" and red marks consistent with blood and substantial bruising and puffiness on her face and arms, told officers Zinsmeister came "home and just attacked me."

The alleged victim stated she had been thrown in the air and hit several times. Items around the apartment were strewn about and a painting and other items damaged.

The woman also told police she had tried to hide and later leave, but Zinsmeister prevented her from doing so, reports from police noted.

The woman was taken by ambulance to the hospital.

Zinsmeister was set for an adjourned initial appearance Dec. 11. He is being held in the Oneida County Jail on a $15,000 cash bond.

He has past convictions for operating while intoxicated and disorderly conduct.
