8/12/2022 4:50:00 PM BREAKING: Anderson pleads guilty in Miller homicide case
Christopher Terrell Anderson entered a guilty plea Friday in Oneida County Circuit Court to one count of first-degree intentional homicide in the June 30, 2021 killing of his former girlfriend, 26-year-old Hannah Miller, on a roadside in the Town of Pelican.
Anderson, 31, was set to stand trial starting Monday morning. Sentencing is now set for 1 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 23.
According to testimony at previous court hearings, Miller's body was discovered in a ditch on River Bend Road at about 11 a.m. June 30 with injuries consistent with gunshot wounds. The pathologist who conducted the autopsy later reported Miller suffered a wound to the chest, two to the back and one at the base of the skull, along with a graze wound to the arm.
According to pretrial pleadings, the state had intended to argue that Anderson was abusive toward Miller, with whom he had a young child, culminating in a roadside shooting.
While the charge carries a life sentence, the court can set a date on which the defendant can petition for release on extended supervision.
District attorney Mike Schiek said the terms of the plea agreement include that the state would argue that Anderson be allowed to make such a petition after 40 years are served.
The defense is free to argue for release on extended supervision after 30 years. However, while accepting Anderson's plea, circuit judge Mike Bloom stressed that he is not bound by the terms of the plea agreement and could order the defendant ineligible for release on extended supervision, in which case he would spend the rest of his life in prison.
A full story on the plea hearing will be published in the Tuesday edition of the River News.
