Sex offender to be released in Oneida County
A 27-year-old Oneida County man convicted of felony child enticement in 2012 is scheduled to be returned to the community today, the Rhinelander Police Department reports.

According to a police department press release, Abel Jump is set to be released from prison today (June 13) and placed on supervision administered by the Department of Corrections.

Vilas County man sentenced to 12 years for distributing child porn
The United States Attorney's Office for the Western District of Wisconsin announced Wednesday that Benjamin McHugh, 36, of St. Germain, was sentenced Tuesday to 12 years in federal prison for distributing child pornography. This prison term is to be followed by a lifetime period of supervised release.

According to the U.S. Attorney's press release, McHugh pleaded guilty to this offense on March 9, 2017. (subscriber access)

Eliason brothers file for Chapter 7 bankruptcy
St. Germain businessmen David J. and Brian E. Eliason are no longer facing criminal securities fraud charges, however they are not through with lawyers and courtrooms. Less than a week after Forest County Judge Leon Stenz signed an order dismissing 10 counts of securities fraud filed against the brothers in February 2016, the two men filed for Chapter 7 Bankruptcy in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Wisconsin. Stepmother charged with second-degree reckless homicide in death of toddler
A 28-year-old Rhinelander woman was formally charged Tuesday with second-degree reckless homicide in connection with the death of her 20-month-old stepson.

According to a press release issued by Oneida County chief deputy Dan Hess just before 1 p.m. Monday, the department received a 9-1-1 call at approximately 6:24 p.m. Friday reporting a 20-month-old boy was breathing very shallowly.

Deputies and medics responded the scene and transported the child to St. Mary's Hospital. (subscriber access)
