An Eagle River man was killed Saturday afternoon when the motorcycle he was operating was struck by a turkey on Highway 70 in the town of Cloverland.
According to the Vilas County Sheriff's Office, a call came in at approximately 4:41 p.m. reporting a single motorcycle crash on Highway 70, approximately 2/10 of a mile east of Old Highway 70.
A witness reported that a black 2005 Yamaha XVS1100 motorcycle traveling eastbound was struck by a turkey. The operator, Terry A. Holmgren, 67, lost control, entered the south ditch and struck several trees.
Holmgren was not wearing a helmet and sustained severe head injuries.
The Vilas County Coroner pronounced him dead at the scene.
Assisting at the scene were the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, Eagle River Ambulance and St. Germain Fire and Rescue.
