Oneida County Buildings and Grounds director Lu Ann Brunette provided a welcome update to the county grounds committee members during the group's Nov. 20 meeting.
To be specific, those who have to visit the government facility in Rhinelander are no longer at risk of leaks form above falling onto them when inside of the site.
For several months, Lake Tomahawk-based Oneida Roof and Chimney has been working to complete repairs to the courthouse roof which was damaged during significant stormy weather in the spring.
Because of the extent of the damage, expenses related with fixing the issue ended up costing more than $100,000, though the county won't have to pay it all.
"We only had to pay the deductible of $5,000," Brunette said in a telephone interview. "The total bid amount was $137,000 and much of it will be covered by our insurance."
In addition to avoiding significant costs for Oneida County, Brunette also expressed relief regarding the speed of the construction in question, thankful it finished in late October.
"I was worried it wouldn't get done before inclement weather," she said. "To have it finished before (the snow) and properly sealed is always a welcome development with our seasonal weather during the cold months being as chaotic or challenging as it often is."
