Kiwanis Winter Escapes set for March 3

Tickets are on sale now for the Rhinelander Kiwanis Club's 31st annual Winter Escapes Extravaganza fundraiser. The event, which has raised over $360,000 for children's organizations and family-oriented projects in the Rhinelander community, will take place Saturday, March 3 at The Taj, 1540 Pueblo Dr., Rhinelander. Doors will open at 5 p.m. and the drawings are set to begin at 6 p.m. Ticket prices are $45. Only 500 tickets will be sold for the event and are available from any Kiwanian, at Peoples State Bank on Lincoln Street, or by calling 715-367-3715.

Again this year, Kiwanian Dave Havel will be the master of ceremonies, organizers said in a press release. All tickets will be drawn during the evening with the last ticket drawn winning the grand prize of $2,000 cash and the 250th ticket drawn winning $1,000. Ten tickets drawn at random throughout the evening will net $100 each. Winners need not be present to win. Additionally, area merchants will donate over 100 merchandise items or gift certificates, which will be given as prizes to ticket holders. "A live auction and cash raffles will be part of the fun," the release states. "Beer and soda will be served throughout the evening, as well as hot sandwiches."

Food and beverages are free for ticket holders

Past projects funded with money raised through Winter Escapes include the children's art classroom at Rhinelander ArtStart, the greenhouse at the Rhinelander Food Pantry, the purchase and installation of Pioneer Park playground equipment, construction of the lighted outdoor basketball court at Central School, the hiking trail at the YMCA and remodeling of the training kitchen at Headwaters Inc.

Kiwanis is an international service organization dedicated to changing the world by serving children, one child and one community at a time.

Reader Poll

How do you feel when politicians offer “thoughts and prayers” after a mass shooting occurs?

Please select one:
I have no problem with it. Politicians can't stop shootings and prayer is always good.
It makes me sick. They could do something to stop or reduce shootings, they just choose not to.
I don’t listen to politicans or care what they say.
