Town of Crescent and Department of Natural Resources firefighters had a busy day Friday, May 17, coping with two fires. The first was a grass fire on Wausau Road reported at approximately 4 p.m. Crescent Fire Chief Keven Mahner said it appeared the fire started from embers blown from a fire ring. A couple of structures sustained minor damage but firefighters kept the flames from threatening several others. Mahner said two people, a civilian and a firefighter, required medical treatment at the scene. The second fire, shown above, took place about 10 miles from the first fire and involved a small horse shelter that was destroyed when the wind reignited a small fire the owner thought had been extinguished. Crescent and DNR firefighters were on the scene, on U.S. Highway 8 near Crescent Road, for about 45 minutes.
