Leadership Oneida County honors Jones and Heck

Two special awards were announced May 16 in conjunction with the Leadership Oneida County (LOC) class of 2018-19 graduation.

The Outstanding Alumni Award is presented annually at the graduation ceremony to one Leadership Oneida County alum who is continuing to develop a leadership presence in the county and who have used experiences from the program to further their service to the county.

This year's Leadership Oneida County Outstanding Alumni Award was presented to Tony Jones. After completing the inaugural Leadership Oneida County program, Jones has continued to stay involved in the LOC programming by volunteering the use of the Masonic Lodge facility space, according to a Leadership Oneida County press release. "Beyond Leadership Oneida County, Tony is the Worshipful Master of the Rhinelander Masonic Lodge #242, local Trig-Star Examiner, actor with the Nicolet Players, and heavily involved in a variety of community events."

A second community leader award was also presented Thursday. The Mel Davidson Award originated in 2011 and is named in honor of Mel Davidson of Rhinelander, a founder of Leadership Oneida County, for his years of service to the community. The award recognizes any person in Oneida County that shows outstanding leadership and service within the county - nominees do not necessarily have to have previous history with the Leadership Oneida County program.

The Mel Davidson Leadership Award was presented to David Heck of Rhinelander for his commitment to improving the Northwoods. Heck is a primary coordinator of the Forward Rhinelander community initiatives, President of the Hodag Schools Foundation, previous Chair of the Rhinelander School District Strategic Planning Committee, current Chair of Board of Directors and a member of Finance Committee at Aspirus Wausau Hospital and Aspirus Clinics, and involved in the Friends of Rhinelander Parks.
