Sun shines on annual art fair, car show

Jamie Taylor
River News Reporter

The Rhinelander Area Chamber of Commerce hosted the 33rd annual Art Fair on the Courthouse Lawn Saturday and executive director Lauren Sackett said Mother Nature cooperated to make the event a big success.

"Beautiful weather, I don't think we could have a better day than it's been today," Sackett said, adding that the turnout for both the art fair and the adjacent car show, which all but surrounded the courthouse, was great.

"We had a pretty steady crowd all day and I would anticipate it continuing through the afternoon," Sackett said. "There is a pretty good number of art fair vendors and we're blown away by the number of cars we got for the car show."

The art fair featured artists and crafters selling items like handmade pottery, woodworking crafts, garden art, soaps and more.

The chamber hosted both the art show and car show, while Downtown Rhinelander Inc. hosted the annual Bikes and Burgers event on Brown Street and the Master Gardeners of the North also hosted its annual plant sale, resulting in a sprawling summer event with something for just about everyone.

"This is a community event we put on each year," Sackett said of the group effort.

Saturday was the 22nd time the car show has been held, and featured a wide variety of antique, classic and custom cars from enthusiasts all across Wisconsin on display.

Sackett said the event has become one of the more popular events the chamber holds and serves as an unofficial kickoff to summer.

"We're really grateful for the (Rhinelander Community Band) that came and played from 10 a.m. to noon," she said. "It was a nice little bonus for people walking through."
