Governor Tony Evers recognized 13 outstanding honorees June 6 at the Monona Terrace in Madison at the 2019 Governor's Service Awards ceremony for their service to Wisconsin citizens and communities in need. One of the honorees is from the Northwoods.
The AmeriCorps Program of the Year was Marshfield Clinic Health System AmeriCorps Recovery Corps, with a service area of Oneida, Vilas, Price, Iron, and Forest counties and Potawatomi, Lac du Flambeau, and Sokaogon Chippewa Tribal Nations.
The Governor's Service Awards honor outstanding volunteers, national service participants, programs, and AmeriCorps alumni which have helped to address serious social needs across Wisconsin, according to a press release issued by the governor's office.
This year's honorees have helped bridge the educational achievement gap, supported people through recovery from opioid addiction, honored veterans, provided transportation to senior citizens, helped children and adults find housing and developed opportunities for all to serve and volunteer throughout the state, the release states.
