Evers approves improvements to U.S. Highway 45
Work to begin Monday

Governor Tony Evers has signed a $1.7 million contract which will fund improvements to U.S. Highway 45 in Eagle River.

The stretch of highway known in town as Pine Street runs between State Highway 70 east and the Hwy. 70/State Highway 17 north junction in Eagle River.

According to a press release from the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, construction is scheduled to begin Monday, Aug. 12.

Pitlik & Wick is the primary contractor for the project, which will convert a four-lane highway to a three-lane highway with a two- way turn lane in the median.

Also included in the project, along with updating all existing curb ramps, repairing deteriorated drainage structures and upgrading traffic signals is the addition of a sidewalk along the north side of Hwy. 45 from east Tuss Street to the Hwy.45 north/Hwy. 17 north intersection.

Construction, the DOT press release stated, is scheduled for completion by October 2019 and "is dependent on favorable weather conditions and construction progress."

As is the case for most construction projects of this type, the DOT stressed motorists can expect to encounter one lane of traffic in both eastbound and westbound lanes on Hwy. 45 between Hwy. 70 east and Hwy. 70 west intersections.

"Pedestrians should anticipate sidewalk closures and alternate routes at various locations and times throughout the project," the DOT release states. "Motorists should expect travel delays."
