Lake Tomahawk man killed in Iron County crash

A 39-year-old Lake Tomahawk was killed early Tuesday morning in a traffic accident near Hurley in Iron County.

According to the Wisconsin State Patrol, the crash occurred on U.S. Highway 51 at Highway 182 and was reported at 7:22 a.m.

"On the morning of Sept. 3, 2019 a white Ford sedan was traveling northbound on Highway 51 in Iron County near the intersection of Highway 182. The vehicle being operated by a 39-year- old male from Lake Tomahawk, left the roadway and struck the east ditch. The male driver was declared deceased at the scene. A 44-year-old female and 16-year-old male passenger were both transported to Howard Young Medical Center by ambulance. The circumstances surrounding the crash are currently under investigation by the Wisconsin State Patrol."

On Wednesday morning, the state patrol identified the deceased as Anthony David Nelson of Lake Tomahawk.

Assisting agencies included Iron County sheriff's department, Mercer Ambulance, and Mercer Fire Department.
