The Crescent Fire Department, along with crews from three other area agencies, spent the better part of Sunday afternoon extinguishing a structure fire on Fire Tower Road.
Crescent Fire Chief Keven Mahner said the department was paged at about 12:30 p.m. When firefighters arrived on scene, the house was fully involved, he said. No one was inside.
Firefighters from Rhinelander, Pelican and Newbold helped extinguish the fire. Mahner said Crescent firefighters were on scene for about five hours, sifting through the ashes and making sure no hot spots lingered in the house.
It is believed the house was burning for several hours before someone reported it to 9-1-1, he said. According to Mahner, the cause of the fire was not known as of Monday morning. It remains under investigation, he noted.
