School board seeking temporary replacement for Roskoskey

Jamie Taylor
River News Reporter

The School District of Rhinelander Board of Education is in need of a temporary member to fill Ben Roskoskey's seat while he completes military service.

During a special board meeting Oct. 28, board president Ron Counter announced that Roskoskey has been called to active duty in the Army. As a result, the board is seeking someone to fill his seat until he returns.

"Because Ben has been called to federal service, we are required by state law to do a temporary appointment in his vacancy," Counter said. "Once he returns from federal service, he will be given 40 days to certify that he has come back and that he will retake his seat."

Counter noted that Roskoskey has already filed paperwork to run for re-election in the spring. His application has been certified and he will be on the ballot for the April 7 election.

Board members Mike Roberts and Duane Frey will also be up for re-election in 2020.

"We plan to, we hope, to appoint someone at the regular board meeting on Monday, Nov. 18, and the final submission of candidacy papers for interested applicants will be Monday, Nov. 11," Counter said.

The form is the same declaration of candidacy form used by those seeking to place their names on the ballot for the April election.

A link to the application can be found on the district's website under the school board link.

The form must be submitted to the superintendent's office by 4 p.m. Nov. 11.
