City of Rhinelander moves polling places for spring election
City Council meeting set for 2 p.m. Monday

The City of Rhinelander is advising voters they may need to report to a new location to cast their ballots on April 7.

Rhinelander clerk Valerie Foley on Thursday announced changes in the City of Rhinelander's polling places for the April 7 election due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

"Unfortunately, some building owners are unable to host polling places for this election," Foley explained in the release. "We apologize for the late change, but we are taking steps to notify everyone by press release, newspaper, & City website of the new location."

The following polling places have changed:

• Oneida County Aging & Disability Resource Center, 100 W. Keenan St., Rhinelander, has been moved to Rhinelander High School gymnasium, 665 Coolidge Ave, Rhinelander.

• Oneida County Sheriff's Department, 2000 E. Winnebago St., Rhinelander, has been moved to Rhinelander High School gymnasium, 665 Coolidge Ave, Rhinelander.

Even though the polling places will be open on election day, Foley urged voters in the City of Rhinelander to avoid polling places and vote absentee by mail instead, if at all possible.

"We want everyone who is eligible and who wants to vote to be able to do so safely," Foley said. "Absentee voting will greatly reduce crowds at polling places on Election Day, which will make social distancing much easier."

Voters can also drop off absentee ballots at the polling place.

Voters can find their polling place online at https://myvote.wi.gov/en-us/FindMyPollingPlace.

Also Thursday, the city announced that the Monday, March 30 meeting of the Common Council will be held at 2 p.m. rather than 6 p.m.

No one other than necessary city personnel and Council members will be allowed into the Council Chambers for a period of three hours before the council meeting, during the meeting or after the meeting until the next morning without the expressed permission of the Mayor, Foley announced in a press release. "This is being done in conformity with the Orders of the Governor of Wisconsin and under the Emergency Orders of the Mayor in conformity with the Governor's Orders and Wisconsin statutes."

WJFW Channel 12 will be livestreaming the meeting, according to the release.
