Rhinelander teacher charged with child sexual assault tenders resignation (Updated)

The School District of Rhinelander announced Monday that middle school teacher Stephanie Pudlowski has tendered her resignation following an arrest on suspicion of child sexual assault.

Pudlowsk resigned effective immediately, according to a school district press release issued just before noon Monday.

Later Monday she made an appearance in Oneida County Circuit Court at which time formal charges were filed.

According to the district's staff directory, Pudlowski taught English at James Williams Middle School.

In response to the investigation and resignation, the district sent out this message to parents of middle school students:

"Today, I have some unfortunate and sad news to share. On Friday May 15, 2020 one of our teachers, Stephanie Pudlowski, was taken into custody on sexual misconduct of a minor in her care. None of our middle school students were involved. Ms. Pudlowski has submitted her letter of resignation to the school district, effective immediately. Mrs. Higgins, our other English Language Arts teacher, will be corresponding with all 8th grade students in assigning, collecting and grading their work via google classroom as usual. There will be no interruption in your 8th grade child's learning. An investigation into the charges against Ms. Pudlowski are ongoing. All questions are to be directed to the Oneida County Sheriff's Department."

Pudlowski is free on a $5,000 signature bond pending an adjourned initial appearance in June.

A full story will be published in our Friday edition.
