8/7/2020 7:29:00 AM Free COVID-19 testing in Rhinelander Aug. 8
The Oneida County Health Department has announced the Wisconsin National Guard is returning to Rhinelander to conduct additional COVID-19 nasal swab testing.
That National Guard will be providing drive-through COVID-19 swab testing at the State DOT Building at 510 Hanson Lake Road, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 8, the health department announced in a press release.
Anyone 5 years and older can get tested, the release states. This event is only available to people that live or work in Wisconsin. Please note that anyone tested who has symptoms will be expected to self-isolate until test results come back. Testing is to determine current infection with COVID-19 and will not include antibody testing.
This will be a drive-thru event located at the State DOT Building. The National Guard will be using a new electronic registration system to speed up the process. People are encouraged to register ahead of time at https://register.covidconnect.wi.gov/ and come prepared with their registration information. People will also be able to register at the event while they wait or with the National Guard (but it will take more time).
We request that you wear a mask or cloth face covering when you arrive. Testing at these events will be free. Please be aware that if testing kits run out before the end of the event, those not tested may be turned away. Due to the unknown amount of interest, prepare for potential wait time. It is requested that modes of transportation form a line while waiting for testing, and that those who want to be tested stay in or on their mode of transportation at all times.
"We are excited to try some different processes for this testing event," noted Linda Conlon, Oneida County Health Officer. "We had some hiccups at our last event in July due to weather and an increase in demand for testing that we are hoping the changes for this event will be able to alleviate."
The Wisconsin National Guard members doing the testing will be in uniform and in full PPE (personal protective equipment), including gowns, masks, gloves, etc. throughout the event.
