City prepares for street reconstruction projects

Millions of dollars in improvements to Rhinelander city streets are set to get underway this summer.

"Today we move forward with improving our streets. I am very proud to say we are investing over $2.2 million this year!" Mayor Kris Hanus said in a press release.

"We're fortunate to have the Premier Resort Area Tax (PRAT) and to be putting it to good use for local and visitor traffic alike," noted city administrator Zach Vruwink.

"We encourage motorists to remain patient and exercise caution in work-zones", he added.

Below is more information on the upcoming street projects:

• Timber Drive - frequently traveled collector-classified. The first phase will begin this summer consisting of Stevens Street to Coolidge Avenue. The street will be closed during construction and detours will exist. In light of continued supply chain and inflationary prices affecting underground utility materials, a second phase from Coolidge Avenue to Hwy. 17 bypass is anticipated in 2023. A recreational trail is also planned on the north side.

• West Timber Drive - Following the recent replacement of the curb & gutter between Thayer and the dead end, the existing pavement will be pulverized and the street will be repaved.

• Stevens Street - Warranty work will occur on a portion of the reconstructed street. Impacts to motorists will be minimal.

• Morill Street - Abner Street to city water tower: Pulverizing the street surface and repaving

• Iverson Street - North and south of Timber Drive: Pulverizing the street surface and repaving

• Lake Street - Morrill Street to Evergreen Court: Pulverizing the street surface and repaving

• Lois Street - River Street to W. Phillip Street: Mill and asphalt overlay to the curb face with spot curb replacement

• Abner Street - Evergreen Court to Thayer Street: Pulverizing the street surface and repaving

• Ohlson Lane - City utilities will be installed, and a new asphalt street surface will be paved from Lincoln to just past the Home Depot south entrance.

• W. Phillip Street - Maple to Spruce

Chip Seal Projects - Oleson St., Madison St., Mason St., Rose St., Doyle St., Alban St., Abner St., Wisconsin Ave., W. Harvey St.
