6/14/2016 7:25:00 AM Pedestrian struck and killed in Vilas County
A male pedestrian was struck and killed Sunday morning in the Vilas County town of Washington.
According to the Vilas County sheriff's office, a call came in at approximately 10:04 a.m. reporting
a vehicle versus pedestrian accident on Shangri La Road, off of Highway 17, in the town of Washington.
"A male pedestrian was standing in the roadway while blowing leaves along the shoulder of the road when he was struck by a vehicle," the sheriff's office said in a press release. "Neighbors in the area heard the accident and called 911. The male pedestrian was pronounced deceased at the scene as a result of his injuries. The driver of the vehicle involved remained at the scene."
The sheriff's office said it is not recommending any criminal charges. Speed and alcohol were not factors in the accident, the department said. A section of Shangri La Road was shut down for several hours during the accident investigation but has since been reopened.
Eagle River Fire Department, Eagle River Ambulance Service out of Eagle River Memorial Hospital, Town of Washington Public Works Department, Vilas County Coroner, Wisconsin State Patrol assisted at the scene.
