Oneida County SRT responds to disturbance in Crescent (UPDATE)

The Oneida County special response team responded to a disturbance in the town of Crescent Wednesday that ended with the discovery of a deceased male.

According to sheriff's captain Tyler Young, a call came in at approximately 11:45 a.m. Wednesday reporting a disturbance at an apartment complex on Overland Drive in the town of Crescent.

"It was reported that the male subject involved had discharged a firearm multiple times," Young said in a press release. "A female that was in the residence was able to leave without being harmed. Upon speaking to the female, sheriff's deputies were informed that the incident actually occurred at around 10:30 a.m. Upon several unsuccessful attempts to make contact with the male subject in the apartment the Oneida County Special Response Team entered the residence at approximately 4:10 p.m."

Inside the residence deputies found a deceased male. He has since been identified as Anthony R. Sackett, 26. "It appears that Sackett suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound," the release states. "This incident is still under investigation. An autopsy is scheduled to be conducted."

Because of the location of the apartment complex in proximity of the Crescent Elementary School, the Oneida County Sheriff Deputies responded to Crescent School, and the school was placed on "Administrative Lock Down" as a precautionary measure. School staff and students were not in danger at any point during this incident.

The Oneida County Sheriff's Office was assisted by Oneida County Ambulance, Crescent 1st responders, and the Oneida County Medical Examiner's Office.
